Barbara Hendrie is an integrative therapist who has worked with NEECs since 1999.She was originally a teacher of young children, then of English to adults in Spain, before becoming a community worker in children and families and community care settings. This included support and advice work, as well as coordinating respite care and befriending services in charities in Edinburgh.
'Integrative 'therapy refers to the process of bringing together different parts of the self to increase inner peace and wholeness, by exploring how thoughts, feelings, sensations and behaviors are linked. Therapy is both a process of developing a shared understanding, and a supportive relationship of non-judgement and honesty. 'Integrative ' also refers to the bringing together of different approaches, recognizing that as unique individuals, different things help different people at different times- and counsellor and client can collaborate on what is needed to help.

Patrick is an experienced counsellor working with a diverse range of clients and issues that encompass depression, anxiety, addiction, loss and bereavement, relationship problems and gay/lesbian and transgender issues, to name but a few. His counselling work is underpinned by over fifteen years of working in the voluntary sector working with children, young people and adults. As well as being a counsellor at NEECS he is also a member of the teaching team at the University of Edinburgh within the department of Counselling, Psychotherapy and Applied Social Science.
His practice is very much influenced by his training in the dialogue between the Person -Centered and Psychodynamic approaches. In this he works in a relational, collaborative way believing in the capacity of the client to construct their own solutions to the issues they present. In doing so he pays attention to and works with the client’s significant relational history and life experience and how this maybe impacting the client in the present. He works within the ethical practice guidelines of COSCA and the BACP as supported by NEECS.
